OUR
METHANE DIGESTER

Our Maas Energy Methane Digester turns the methane gas from our herd into renewable natural gas, improving our sustainability and profitability.

"We are doing the right thing and making strides to lower emissions for each pound of milk or pound of beef produced - so please don't characterize family farms like mine as large corporate polluters."
- Simon Vander Woude

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY: Methane Digester

Our methane digester captures methane gas as it rises from our flush water and sends it to a processing plant to be turned into renewable natural gas. Flush water is what captures our herd's waste as it washes over the lanes everyday. This manure-filled water is sent to our lagoon, where it travels through more pipelines to fill our digester. As the methane gas rises, it is captured by a plastic tarp and sent to Maas Energy's on-site processing plant that also receives the gas from other local dairies. Construction for the digester at Vander Woude Dairy finished in December of 2021 and Grand View Dairy is in the planning phase. This sustainable practice helps us to abide by California's strict environmental regulations, reduce our carbon footprint, enter into the carbon credits market and energy business, be profitable, and take something that would have otherwise rose into the atmosphere and turn it into energy. In His Word, God tells us to have dominion over the earth (Genesis 1:26-28) and this is one way we strive to fulfill that promise.
